Observing sights of litter, led me to think, “what if it was something beautiful instead?”. Humans are responsible for some of the most incredible creations while also being capable of the most destruction. This is a statement piece, a visual reaction to the world's consumption and waste. All second hand materials were used to bring this idea to life.

If I step back and look at my pieces as a whole, I can imagine them being a movement towards an end in fast fashion. The industry of “52 micro-seasons per year” relies on consumers wanting to purchase clothing as much and as fast as possible.* Their advertising is very powerful in that it makes people feel out of trend each week, generating demand for new items, meaning more growth for companies. It’s a system that is damaging to our planet and society. My generation does not need another corrosive industry. To benefit my point, the definition of Fashion is: 1. a popular trend, especially in styles of dress and ornament or manners of behavior. I want my pieces to change the behavior of fashion and consumption. Whether it’s to invoke awareness or inspire people, it’s our job as a new informed generation to change the current industry.
