AIR JORDAN 1 LOW OG

“AIR MAXIO”

MY FIRST SHOE I EVER MADE

For my next project I wanted to further expand my horizons and make my own shoe from scratch. The project was inspired by those lazy summer days where you have nothing to do but chill and eat ice cream in the hot summer sun. It's also made from leather scraps recovered from high-end designers.

It began with studying the Air Jordan 1 LOW 1985

I spent a couple weeks deconstructing a pair of Air Jordan 1 LOW OG retros, tracing the patterns and uploading them to my computer where I would use images from the 1985 silhouette and alter the cutouts to best match the original. Perforations on the toe box, the curve of the nike swoosh, the angle of the stitching were just some of the details I noted and altered.

MAKING THE LAST

In order to achieve a bond between the upper and the soles you need to shape the sneaker using a last. I found several Air Jordan 1 lasts online but they were way too expensive for my experiment. I decided to make my own. I utilized my high schools wood workshop and sculpted the shape of the Air Jordan 1 from observation. It required very specific arches and curves which I had to guess when making my own. There was a lot of trial and error but I figured it out eventually.
